“Spring Break”

What I plan on doing this spring break is spend time with my cousins because I barely see them. I have to drive really far and I also want to visit a cousin in college. She is not coming home for another year or two. I even want to go to Detroit.  I love to see my granduncles and aunts. They had a hotel for me to stay in while I was in Detroit. That is what I plan on doing this spring break.

Eighth Graders Participate in African Drumming and Rhythms

The 8^th Graders were working on African drumming and rhythms.  First we played the game “what’s for dinner?” and the students were able to break up foods into syllables and rhythms. Then the class learned the song “Take Time in Life” and added in 3 different rhythmic elements. They found that it’s not so easy to play different rhythms and sing at the same time!

Sixth Graders Prepare For Art Project - Cafeteria Mural to come in May 2011

Sixth grade art students at Catalyst Howland are making it their mission to paint over the gang signs on the art room windows.  Students are creating sketches of what mini murals they want to put on the windows. Students are learning about the skills and components to developing a quality mural on the mini window murals.  This is preparing students for the large cafeteria mural that is coming in May 2011.

I just experienced a 7^th grade field trip.  They went to Facts Multimedia Theater.  We watched stories about African Cultures.  One story was about a African girl who was going through struggles.  It was an outstanding experience.

CATALYST--HOWLAND CLASS OF 2011

I am a journalist and I thought it would be interesting to interview the graduating class of 2011. The 8^th grade is a heavy influence on the kindergarten to 7^th grades of Catalyst Howland.  Interviewing the 8^th grade class was important to me because, I wanted to get a sneak peak at the role models of Catalyst Howland.

 Damarques says, “My favorite thing to do is to play basketball, my favorite color is maybe all colors, my goal is to succeed in school, and go to college.”

 Monique says, “Favorite color blue, favorite sport basketball, my plan for the future is to finish college and to become a pediatrician.”

Pierre says, “My favorite thing to do is to play football, my favorite quote is ‘O’my god’, my goal is to finish high school and college and become a game designer.”

 Kaleb says, “My favorite color is red, my favorite quote is ‘O’my goodness’, my goal is to have a successful joke store.”

 Atiya says, “My favorite quote is from Spiderman ‘with great power comes great responsibility’. My favorite color is fuchsia (pink), my favorite thing to do is to write stories and cook and count money. My goal is to be a bank manager.”

            Diamond says, “My favorite things to do is to read books, my favorite color is purple and black, my goal, is to finish the 8^th grade and high school so that I can go to college and have a good future. My favorite quote is, ‘stay far from time only makes moves when your heart is in it’.”

Diamond says, “Favorite color: blue, favorite thing to do: loves being around friends and to have fun. Quote: ‘I don’t want to sit and think about my dreams; I’m going to follow them.’ Goal: to become a pediatrician.”

    5^th Grade behind the scenes. Opera Theater - lights camera – start signing.  Our 5^th graders are doing a play in June. Any one is welcome to see it and it’s free. Come see our great singers, our stars, and our terrific school.

These 5^th grade teachers Ms.Moise and Mr.King two very wonderful teachers doing a great job on their play together with both classes. Must see this play to understand what you see.
